One of my most favourite places in the world that I have been lucky to travel to is Sri Lanka.
Put simply, Sri Lanka is an amazing destination. This tropical island in the Indian Ocean is blessed with dazzling beaches, national parks, ancient cities and extraordinary wildlife, and the most wonderful people.
For such a small island, there truly is something for all ages and interests. There’s so much to amaze and create lasting memories for the whole family.
However sadly, just as tourism was flourishing after years of civil unrest the island was devastated by a terrorist attack in 2019, and then went on to suffer hugely by the negative impacts of Covid 19.
The country has since faced a huge political and economic crisis in in the spring and summer of 2022 with the UK and other countries issuing temporary FCDO advice against travel to the country, which then meant a further and devastating blow to much needed tourism.
After having to postpone my own family holiday and much anticipated trip to Sri Lanka and knowing how much this amongst other cancelled trips to the island has affected hotel staff, TukTuk drivers, chefs, gardener’s, guides etc I couldn’t help but wonder how Bespoke Luxury travel could help on more of a grass roots level.
I have always had a fondness for the Sri Lankan people, one of my daughters had even done her gap year there in Amballangoda helping in an Orphanage with lots of lovely children whose lives had been impacted by the Tsunami. So it seemed a natural fit to work with a Sri Lankan charity and the Foundation of Goodness was recommended to me by several sources.
Their work is simply incredible, and what they have achieved over the years is outstanding.
The positive impact on the lives in rural communities by empowering and installing the spirit of goodness, to have equal opportunities to excel in life has been extremely successful.
Bespoke Luxury travel are proud to be supporting the foundation, and for every booking made we will be making quarterly donations to support some of their key projects such as food and essential items packs for rural communities, sponsoring a child’s education and lots more. Our updates will be proudly displayed on our Instagram feed as and when the donations are made.
Take a look for yourself on this wonderful piece done for the Discovery channel about the founder Kushil Gunasekera, and like myself I am sure you will be completely bowled over by the kindness and success of one man’s vision.
